IPS Hilversuml is an authorized International Baccalaureate World School offering an international curriculum based on the Primary Years Programme (PYP). The PYP is designed specifically for children aged from four to twelve. It focuses on the total growth of the developing child, and aims to affect hearts as well as minds by addressing students’ social, physical, emotional and cultural needs in addition to their academic welfare. The PYP combines the best research and practice from a range of national systems with a wealth of knowledge and experience from international schools.
The PYP offers a comprehensive, inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning. The curriculum framework is an expression and extension of three inter-related questions:
- What do we want to learn?
- How best will we learn?
- How will we know what we have learned?

Transition from PYP to MYP
The Primary Years Programme offered at IPS Hilversum prepare children for several possible choices in secondary education. Upon completion of the 8th group at the age of 12 in the Violenschool, most graduates are ready to tackle the next stage of their academic programme, the Middle Years Programme (MYP). This is offered at various schools in The Netherlands including nearby at the International School of Hilversum, Alberdingk Thijm.
Exposure to the PYP curriculum serves as an excellent foundation for the MYP since the philosophy, styles of teaching and learning as well as the overall goals are consistent.
The ultimate goal of the PYP and MYP is the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. With the IB diploma, the students can pursue higher learning in educational institutions all over the world.

Groot Goylant International Stream
Should your child be more suited to a less academically oriented higher education, the Groot Goylant International Stream offers an English-language vocational training (MBO) programme where students follow a variety of practical and theoretical subjects. The school, like the International School of Hilversum, is part of the KLG (Katholiek Lyceum ‘t Gooi) a group of Dutch Secondary Schools in the ‘t Gooi area. It provides students with the best possible education and social environment with a firm basis for transition to future MBO studies in the Netherlands or its equivalent abroad.
