This unit we are studying all about plants. We start the unit by taking a walk outside and discuss what happens in the springtime. We will learn about the parts of a plant and the differences between plants. We also plan to start a “Group 2 Garden” at both locations where we will continue to make trips to our garden, learning and practising how to take care of plants. Next, we will conduct experiments to see how plants survive and form conclusions about what a plant needs. This will include planting class plants, the children planting and taking care of their own plant and investigating the functions of different parts of the plant. Later in the unit we will begin studying the products we derive from plants. This is a great follow up to our previous unit about origins of products as we are now talking about the products plants and trees provide us. This includes wood products, fruit, vegetables, flowers, chocolate, rubber, cotton, etc. We will close off the unit with discussions and activities about how plants are a very important part of our Earth and our lives. We encourage you to discuss these points with your child, take care of plants at home and observe in nature the beautiful season of spring.


Math Focus:
